One of the most iconic muscle cars is the Dodge Challenger, with configurations achieving over 780 horsepower. According to Michael Manley, CEO of FCA US LLC, the brand plans to make the Challenger “electrified” in the next generation.

Manley comments that traditional technology simply isn’t going to cut it; new innovations will help reduce the weight of the Dodge Challenger and allow for more electric technology, which is a major step into the future for Dodge specifically.

While a hybrid or electric engine may not feature a high horsepower V8 engine like the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, it will still remain a powerful muscle car that drivers will love. According to Manley, ” Electrification deployed to increase the performance of the vehicle as its primary goal – with the added benefits of fuel economy – is very different, instead of the other way around.”

In fact, as we’ve seen with the implementation of eTorque technology in the 2019 RAM 1500, using electric technology for performance reasons can increase both efficiency and power.

As your trusted Dodge dealership in Barrington, IL, we are happy to hear that the brand is developing more efficient technology. However, this type of Dodge Challenger likely won’t begin production until after 2020.

So, if you’d like one last taste of the high-horsepower Dodge Challenger before it gets electrified, there’s plenty of time to get one. Here at Wickstrom Chrysler Jeep® Dodge RAM, we offer new muscle cars like the Dodge Charger and Dodge Charger for those looking to drive on the wild side.
